DECCA / CD 476 3038

On April 29th Roberto Prosseda's first DECCA CD was released: "Mendelssohn Discoveries" (Decca 476 3038).

It includes 78 minutes of Felix Mendelssohn's unknown piano works; all of them are recorded here for the first time.

Among the various surprising discoveries, there is a sizeable Fantasia (1823), 25-minutes long, one of the most

complex piano works ever written by Mendelssohn. Another important masterwork is the Capriccio in E flat minor,

reminiscent of Beethoven and Weber, and Mendelssohn's own arrangement of Scherzo, Notturno and Wedding March

from A Midsummer Night Dream. The cd also includes several unknown Song without Words, a youthful Sonatina,

a delicate Andante and the dramatic and virtuoso Adagio and Presto agitato. The extended liner notes were written

by R. Larry Todd, one of the most eminent Mendelssohn scholars, author of "Mendelssohn: a life in Music",

named the Best Biography of the Year" by the American Publishers Association.
