THE DOPPIO BORGATO

Luigi Borgato was born on 21 February 1963. Cultivated in Padua — Padua being the birthplace of Bartolomeo Cristofori, inventor of the piano — since he was a boy, he has developed a deep passion for music. Fascinated by the grandeur and beauty of the piano, he approached the instrument by beginning its study.

In 1983, as a self-taught man, he began his activity as a piano tuner and at the same time built his professionalism and technical knowledge through training outside the academic paths.
Meanwhile, he organised his first atelier in his home town near Padua where later he would design and craft the first two BORGATO L282 Concert Grand Pianos.

An innate technical curiosity led him to explore and deepen the various fields of piano making: philosophies and techniques of building the modern piano, technology of materials, acoustic phenomena of the strings and of the soundboard, the sound and its propagation…

Intuition and tenacity in carrying out his ideas led Luigi Borgato to improve tradition by designing and building concert grand pianos of innovative conception, equipped with four struck strings per note from the middle of the keyboard to the treble (BORGATO PATENT), with innovative cast-iron frames, true sculptures of art with contents of high engineering.

Luigi Borgato crafts his pianos entirely by hand, one by one. He personally selects the wood and chooses all the materials and components for the making of his instruments. A unique reality of true artistic craftsmanship that represents an excellence recognised in his field.

He is also an esteemed piano technician and tuner. He personally cares for his own instruments for concerts and recordings, assisting internationally renowned pianists.
In his role as Master builder, he is invited to give masterclasses on piano making, technology and fine-tuning in Italy and abroad.
